A New Natural Fiber that offers an alternative to Linen
BANANA FIBER BLENDED WITH COTTON
Cotton, Linen & Silk are the popular natural fibers used for apparel textiles over the centuries. These have been adapted to meet the requirement of modern day high volume production machinery making them the preferred choice even today.
In mankind’s quest for alternative natural fibers, the production of Apparel grade yarn and fabric on a commercial scale has been one of the major stumbling blocks.
M/s Anandi Enterprises is happy and proud to introduce Banana Fiber based yarn & fabrics. Anandi Enterprises holds a strong place in the field of sustainable fabrics and now we introduce Apparel grade Banana fiber a new natural fiber alternative to Cotton and Linen.
In the quest for new sources of natural fiber for apparels, the Banana plant holds much potential. The fiber from Banana stem has unique physical and chemical characteristics that hold the potential to make fine quality fiber. It is light weight, highly strong with low elongation and has good moisture absorption and release characteristics.
The Anandi Enterprises developed commercial scale manufacturing process offers better fineness and spinability in extraction and conversion to yarn and fabric. This Banana yarn and fabric produced matches Linen in its feel and texture thus making it as an alternative acceptable to consumers as an apparel fabric a reality.
The adoption of Banana fiber based apparels reduces the demand to bringing more acreage under cotton farming a highly water hungry crop. Further it is a fabric that is bio degradable with no negative effects on environment and thus an eco-friendly.
This “Virtuous plant” called ‘Kalpataru’, which means divine tree is completely associated in our tradition and culture.
Today Indian is the largest cultivator of Banana Crop globally after Brazil. While the use of Banana fiber in different forms is not new, the manufacturing process developed by M/s Anandi Enterprises enables apparel grade fabric production at a commercially viable scale. This opens up the opportunity for India to become among the largest producer of Apparel grade Banana yarn and fabric in the world.
Additionally the Banana stem raw material is an Argo waste by product generating an additional source of revenue for the farmer who till today had to cart and discard this Argo waste into landfills.
M/s Anandi enterprises is working with leading fashion designers and apparel brands to popularize the adoption of this new commercially viable eco-friendly fiber for apparels.
